So, this is what I have been doing the past week to get in touch with what I am feeling when I have exhibited excellent self-discipline and not so good discipline. This relates to discipline toward my art and its promotion and other personal goals (those nasty 10 pounds that keep hanging on).
First, I do best with self-discipline when I start my day with the 30 Days to Grace practice that my dear friend, Diane Sieg, developed. I sit in a quiet space; visualize my intentions for the day and then do my yoga and meditation practice. I purposely thank the ‘universe’ for all of my good fortune and ask for help in reaching my goals. I repeat several positive affirmations and then I start my day. This puts me into a good space where I feel that I have control over my destiny, or at least how I feel about my destiny (control is an illusion).
The times that I struggle most with self-discipline are the times when I feel bad about myself, which includes feeling lazy, sad, anxious, and stuck and a variety of other noxious feelings. For instance, today I looked at my list of things to accomplish and I so wanted to avoid making a follow up phone call to a gallery. I was doing the usual, ‘My work really isn’t that good. How could they be interested in me’ and all I wanted to do was take a nap.’ Well, I bit the bullet and made the call and as a result feel much better about myself. So, the question is, how do you maintain this? I have been keeping a journal to document the insights that come to me during this process. What do you do to understand self-discipline?

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
