Greetings and Salutations!  Thanks for checking out my website and paintings.  I hope you enjoy them.

Please take your time and browse….. I have added some new information! I have started painting with oils and have included images on this site…AND…I have started to teach watercolor classes.  I am teaching at pARTiculars, through Lifelong Learning in Boulder and will start at the Art Underground in Louisville the first of the year.

Here’s some info about how I started painting…..I was fortunate to discover my painting ability in 1999. I was visiting my family and my Mother gave me my first lesson. I painted a ‘flying snail’ (which was meant to be a butterfly) and we still laugh about the result.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Painting makes me happy. Ideas, feelings and images come to me and I must carry them out. I create a painting and it’s mine to start with but eventually moves on to its rightful owner. People ask me if it is difficult to part with a painting that has had a particularly strong effect on me…my answer is always ‘no’, I’m just a small part of the process and the process endures.

I paint whatever pulls at me at the moment; landscapes, abstracts, close ups, flowers, patterns, still lifes….I am energized by a variety of different techniques and subjects. Once an idea forms in my head and heart, I must put it on paper or canvas or it will never let me move on. Some of the elements/techniques that attract me are repeating patterns, vibrant colors, contrast of light and dark, simplifying shapes and a variety of hard and soft edges. Lately, I’m especially interested in cast shadows and making them the center of interest. I also like unusual compositions or views of a subject and am attracted to impressionistic & abstract works. I see the direction of my work moving more and more toward abstraction. I choose to work with watercolor and oils because I like the versatility and vibrancy of the mediums. As I stated, painting makes me happy and I hope that is what viewers feel when looking at my art.
